At the first visit, your child will be welcomed into the child-friendly dental surgery by the dental nurse where he/she will meet the paediatric dentist and be allowed to explore the toys and books in the surgery. The dentist will take this opportunity to talk with you, address any concerns and obtain all the relevant information about your child.
We will then invite your child into the dental chair and explain that we are going to inspect the teeth in age appropriate language using a ‘fun’ approach. Alternatively, if your child is not happy to sit in the dental chair, we can ‘count’ their teeth while they sit on your lap. After examining the teeth the dentist may take x-ray pictures if indicated. Finally, we will discuss the diagnosis, explain the proposed treatment plan and behaviour management options in depth and provide you with a comprehensive cost estimate. Treatment is not usually carried out during the consultation visit (unless it is an emergency), as we intend to use this opportunity to introduce your child to the dental environment, deliver preventive advice and to assess your child’s level of cooperation for future visits.
